Job summary

Wise is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Wise Platform - API Experience team. You will design and maintain scalable backend services in Java/Spring Boot within a microservices architecture, driving API standards and developer tooling.

You’ll collaborate with product managers, solutions engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, enterprise-grade APIs. Opportunity to travel globally and contribute to a highly impactful platform.

Qualifications

Experience designing production-grade public APIs (RESTful, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2).
Strong backend in Java/Spring Boot architectures.
Experience with event-driven architecture using Kafka or similar.
Relational database design/optimisation (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
DDD and microservices patterns; high availability/low latency focus.
Customer-centric approach balancing tech, UX, and cost.

Responsibilities

Design & Architecture: Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL.
API Product Ownership: Set API standards (RESTful, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2) and build developer tools and SDKs.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, apply DDD principles.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with PMs, Implementation Managers, Solutions Engineers, and partner teams.
Cross-Organizational Impact: Align Wise engineering teams with API standards across frontend and infra.
Global Travel: Collaborate with engineering hubs worldwide, including Tallinn.
