Job summary

Opus Recruitment Solutions Ltd is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby & AI Platform) to join the AI Events team on a remote freelance basis. You will design trigger systems connecting GitLab events to AI-powered workflows and integrate third-party events from Jira, Jenkins, and Slack.

You will contribute to the core event platform, ensure high availability, and work across a multi-service Ruby on Rails ecosystem with AI-driven capabilities.

Qualifications

• Deep commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in a large production monolith.
• Proven track record building user-facing products that integrate Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale, high-availability systems.
• Hands-on experience developing agentic systems and workflows for autonomous AI agents.
• Ability to learn emerging AI capabilities quickly while delivering results.
• Strong written communication for asynchronous collaboration in a remote, globally distributed team.

For one of our leading clients, we are searching for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer (Ruby & AI Platform) to join their AI Events team. You'll work closely with engineering, product, and design to build the event-driven infrastructure and trigger systems that power automated AI workflows across the software development lifecycle.

Role Responsibilities

• Design and build trigger systems that connect GitLab events, including code pushes, merge request and issue changes, CI/CD results, and deployments, to AI-powered workflows
• Develop integrations for third-party events from tools such as Jira, Jenkins, and Slack
• Contribute to the core event platform that enables AI features to determine when and how workflows should run
• Architect systems for high availability, reliability, and throughput, ensuring events are processed effectively at scale
• Build and maintain production functionality within a large, established Ruby on Rails monolith
• Influence product and architecture direction by proposing iterative solutions to complex technical challenges across a multi-service environment
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and AI platform teams to expand trigger capabilities and support the wider agent ecosystem
• Participate in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations, troubleshooting production, security, and urgent engineering issues

Requirements

• Have deep commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, including working effectively within a large production monolith
• Have a proven track record building user-facing products that integrate Large Language Models
• Have extensive experience designing and operating large-scale systems focused on high availability and throughput
• Have hands-on experience developing agentic systems and workflows that allow AI agents to take autonomous action
• Demonstrate the ability to make progress in evolving problem spaces and learn emerging AI capabilities quickly
• Possess strong written communication skills for collaborating asynchronously within a remote, globally distributed team
• Additional experience with Python, developer tooling, or GitLab as a product would be beneficial
