Job summary

Marks & Spencer Plc is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance the Price Domain, building scalable backend services and APIs that power pricing and promotions across M&S channels. You will contribute to event-driven architectures using Kafka and GraphQL, and work with MongoDB, Redis, and PostgreSQL to deliver reliable, high-volume systems.

You will collaborate with product teams, engineers, and business stakeholders to enable fast, resilient delivery and strong engineering

Qualifications

• Strong backend design and operation of scalable services in production.
• Experience with Java and/or Kotlin and modern microservice architectures.
• Proficiency with distributed systems and event-driven messaging patterns.
• API-first platforms with GraphQL and REST.
• Comfort building high-volume transactional systems with low latency.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend services powering pricing and promotions across multiple channels.
• Develop scalable microservices and APIs using Java/Kotlin.
• Contribute to Kafka-based event-driven architectures for high-volume price publishing.
• Design and evolve GraphQL APIs ensuring performance and governance.
