Job summary

Marks & Spencer plc is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve the Payments Platform, powering online payments across M&S digital channels. You will build high-volume, secure services and APIs for millions of customer journeys, while shaping technical direction and ensuring observability and reliability.

You will join the Payments team to modernise critical payment capabilities and drive engineering excellence across enterprise systems and ecommerce platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong Java engineering expertise with experience designing enterprise services and APIs.
• Proven ability to deliver scalable, resilient backend systems in large environments.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, observability, production support, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve payment services that enable seamless transactions.
• Develop resilient backend services, APIs, and integrations for millions of journeys.
• Own features end-to-end including design, testing, deployment and support.
• Shape the technical direction of the Payments platform for performance and security.
• Champion clean, well-tested code and establish best practices across teams.
• Design systems with observability, monitoring, and fault tolerance at core.
