Marks & Spencer is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – Payments Platform to shape and evolve our payment ecosystem across stores and digital channels. You’ll lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure payment solutions while mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong cloud and platform engineering experience, a passion for operational excellence, and a proven ability to solve complex technical challenges in high-volume environments.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience with Java and modern tech choices.
• Deep expertise operating large-scale cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and observability.
• Experience implementing CI/CD and modern DevOps tooling (GitHub Actions).
• Commitment to engineering quality, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

Responsabilités

• Own end-to-end payment platform outcomes across key products for reliability and security.
• Lead design and delivery of complex, scalable payment capabilities.
• Shape architecture of payment systems with architects and engineering leaders.
• Drive engineering excellence through DevOps and incident management.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.
