Job summary

Wise is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in London to build and operate new backend services for the Partner Experience team. You will design and deploy microservices, RBAC, and SSO integrations, enabling enterprise partners to onboard, report, and manage their day-to-day activities within the portal.

You will collaborate across API Experience, KYC, FinCrime, and Compliance to deliver scalable, secure, and observable systems that support cross-border payments.

Qualifications

• ),Experience designing, building, and deploying backend microservices in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, and microservices patterns.
• Comfort with designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2, and versioning strategies.
• Ability to design relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including indexing and data modelling.
• Strong documentation of existing systems, dependencies, and constraints.

Responsibilities

• Backend microservices for partner-facing features: fraud reporting, case management, RFI handling, audit logging, and transaction visibility.
• Implement and manage the permissions and RBAC system for the partner portal.
• Lead SSO (SAML 2.0) integration with enterprise partners, including identity mapping.
• Develop the communication layer between Wise and partners for new case types and workflows.
• Design APIs for partner-facing endpoints with a bias to consistency and good documentation.
• Collaborate with FinCrime, Compliance, and KYC to bring sanctions workflows into the portal.
• Contribute to technical discovery: map systems, assess dependencies, produce design docs as team reference.
• Provide production support and debugging for live partner issues.
