Job summary

Wise is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer II to join the Partner Experience team in London. You will design and build backend services for enterprise partners, focusing on reliability, security, and scalable APIs.

You will own features from discovery through production, collaborating with Compliance, KYC, and FinCrime to integrate complex workflows. The role emphasizes designing from scratch for enterprise tooling, with production-grade systems and strong DX.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and deploying backend microservices in Java and Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, and microservices patterns.
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs commercially; OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2, and versioning.
• Ability to design relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including indexing and data modelling.
• You map complex technical landscapes and write clear documentation of findings.
• Deliver reliably and work independently while collaborating with adjacent teams.
• Understand enterprise needs for reliability, auditability, and security as design constraints.

Responsibilities

• Backend microservices for partner-facing features: fraud reporting, case management, RFI handling, audit logging, and transaction visibility.
• RBAC permissions and access control system for the partner portal.
• SSO (SAML 2.0) integration for enterprise partners and identity mapping.
• API design for partner endpoints with consistent docs and versioning.
• Collaborate with FinCrime, Compliance, and KYC to bring sanctions workflows into the portal.
• Technical discovery: map existing systems, assess dependencies, and produce design documents.
• Production support and debugging for live partner issues.
