Job summary

Wise is a global technology company building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. We are looking for a Senior Backed Engineer to join the Recommend team in our London office, focusing on the recommendation platform, rewards, and onboarding experiences for customers worldwide.

You will work with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to design scalable systems, APIs, and product experiences that simplify international money transfers and improve our customers’ journey.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Java or Kotlin (or other JVM language).
• Strong experience with the Spring framework and relational databases.
• Experience with distributed systems, especially Kafka.
• Proven ability to write testable code and apply testing strategies (unit/integration).
• Excellent communication and collaboration with product, data, and engineering teams.
• End-to-end ownership mindset and customer-focused decision making.

Responsibilities

• Evolve and scale the recommendation platform and rewards systems.
• Build APIs and product experiences for customers worldwide.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineers on core features.
• Contribute to testing strategy with emphasis on testable code and maintainability.
