Oxford Dynamics Limited is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own significant parts of the platform end-to-end. The role emphasises depth of engineering judgment over specific stacks, with a Python-centric backend, PostgreSQL data, and containerised deployments.

You will help shape architecture, standards, and team growth, while collaborating across security-critical environments and customer-facing systems.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Docker and containerised deployment in production.
• Strong programming ability in Python, or demonstrable depth in a comparable language with a willingness to work primarily in Python.
• Track record of building and operating production backend systems with you shaping the design, not just implementing it.
• Experience designing and operating production APIs – versioning, security, documentation and automated testing.
• Relational database design and performance tuning (PostgreSQL or equivalent).
• Experience with asynchronous or event-driven architectures and the associated failure modes.
• Fluency with Git-based workflows and code review as a team practice.

Responsabilités

• Design, build and evolve backend services for high-availability, high-throughput workloads (Python/FastAPI).
• Own the design of well-versioned HTTP APIs with clear contracts and documentation.
• Design event-driven systems and background processing pipelines with retries and back-pressure.
• Model data and tune the databases behind it; handle indexing, migrations and scaling.
• Apply caching, rate limiting and queuing to meet performance targets.
• Integrate with AI pipelines and model-serving endpoints, including streaming responses and async jobs.
• Tackle ambiguous problems where requirements are unclear and decisions are needed.
