Job summary

Fresha is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in London to design and build the backend services powering our booking, POS and payments platform. You will work on a modular, AI-assisted engineering stack and own features end to end from conception to production.

The role offers a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment with frequent deployments behind feature flags. You will engage with cross-functional teams and contribute to scalable, fault-tolerant systems, while expanding your expertise

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and running backend services in production.
• Designs for correctness: idempotence, timeouts, concurrent updates.
• Experienced with distributed systems at scale.
• Event-driven architecture using asynchronous events (Kafka or equivalent).
• Comfortable shipping behind feature flags with instrumentation.
• Able to critique and improve engineering workflows including AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own features end to end: design, build, test, ship and support.
• Ship most days behind a feature flag; CI/CD handles rollout and monitoring.
• Work across services and repos to plan and ship changes.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend, Infrastructure and Mobile teams.
• Maintain system health, performance and quality; fix bottlenecks.
• Contribute to evolving architecture and engineering practices.
