As part of the operations team, this role will ensure the construction of networks to guarantee that ESPUG adopts, operates, and maintains safe, compliant, and efficient assets.

Reporting to the Network Operations Manager, the SAP will be responsible for operational matters related to the daily running of electricity networks and will ensure that EHV assets are constructed to appropriate standards. This will be achieved in collaboration with other senior management team members who provide specialized knowledge.

This role is crucial for the adoption and operation of assets across residential and I&C networks. Familiarity and experience with EHV networks would be advantageous as these networks are increasingly adopted.

Role Purpose

The key objectives are to manage and oversee the construction of assets up to 132kV, ensuring safety and operability standards are met to enable ESPUG to comply with its licence conditions. Control and authorization of electricity distribution networks are also vital, ensuring adherence to ESPUG standards, Distribution Safety Rules, and industry guidance.

As a senior member of the Network Operations management team, this role will contribute to developing and implementing processes and strategic decisions to achieve effective commercial and regulatory outcomes and meet business targets.

The role involves building strong relationships with ESPUG’s portfolio of ICP partners, contractors, emergency services, and maintenance providers.

It also includes ensuring processes and resources are in place to respond to network incidents and representing ESPUG, or deputizing for the Network Operations Manager, at industry forums, workshops, and meetings as needed.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accountable for the quality and compliance of asset construction and network operations by:
2. Ensuring contractors (ICPs & authorized contractors) are safe, competent, accredited, and regularly audited against ESP policies and industry guidance.
3. Briefing customers on industry requirements and ESP policies and procedures.
4. Engaging in technical and compliance discussions with customers to support safe, compliant, and efficient networks.
5. Managing inspections of assets during construction, pre- and post-commissioning, to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient network adoption.
6. Reporting safety and technical non-conformances and managing targeted interventions.
7. Assisting customers with the design of HV and LV networks for safe, efficient, and compliant operation and maintenance.
8. Acting as Safety Controller under ESP Distribution Safety Rules.
9. Planning and controlling HV switching schedules as HV control engineer.
10. Providing 24-hour HV control standby duties for fault and planned works.
11. Delivering fault response activities through service providers and maximizing recovery from third-party damages.

Key Skills

High Voltage Senior Authorised Person with extensive experience in HV and LV electricity distribution networks, authorized for safety switching.

Specific requirements include:

• Current High Voltage SAP authorization (fault and planned switching), preferably with a DNO up to 132kV.
• Demonstrable experience matching the authorization level.
• Experience in delivery, installation, operation, maintenance, and management of electricity distribution networks up to 132kV.
• Understanding of fault detection, repair techniques, and fault location switching strategies.
• Knowledge of the Regulatory and HSE Framework.
• Knowledge of industry standards, recommendations, specifications, and legislation relevant to network construction and operation.
• Understanding of distribution network design principles, including protection and SCADA systems.
