Job summary

Octopus Energy Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join as a founding member of our new AI team. You will help move beyond ad-hoc AI experiments and build a scalable AI capability from the ground up, collaborating with Software Engineering, Operations, Services, and Finance to deliver live features.

This role focuses on building internal developer tools, production gates, and guardrails, while mentoring embedded teams and ensuring secure, well-architected AI-powered workflows in a

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering background with Python/Django.
• Experience with modern AI toolchains and LLM integrations.
• Ability to audit AI-generated code and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to ship practical AI features in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Embed within cross-functional teams to co-build AI features inside domain codebases.
• Design and build internal developer tools and pipeline gates in Python.
• Establish guardrails, security standards, and production pathways for scalable systems.
• Collaborate with the Data team to ensure secure data flows into AI tools and applications.
• Provide hands-on pairing, mentorship, and coaching to local teams during embedded rotations.
• Gather insights from deployments to feed prototyping tools, patterns, and frameworks.
