Job summary

Vodafone is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to define and lead the technical direction of an AI-native Internal Developer Platform. This role enables product and engineering teams to build, deploy, operate, and continuously improve software safely and efficiently at scale, with self-service capabilities and AI-assisted workflows.

You will shape the platform roadmap, deliver reusable patterns and templates, ensure governance and security, and drive reliability using SLOs and observability.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and operating internal developer platforms.
• Expertise across cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, service networking, and platform security.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go or Java).
• Advocate for AI-native engineering practices, including automation and intelligent operations.
• Familiarity with platform-as-a-product concepts, developer experience optimization, and adoption metrics.
• Ability to define reliability objectives, SLOs, monitoring, and incident-driven improvements.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the technical roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform.
• Design and deliver self-service capabilities, reusable pathways, and standard service templates.
• Contribute to cloud-native platform architecture (compute, Kubernetes, networking, security).
• Integrate AI-assisted workflows to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
• Establish governance and security guardrails through policy-as-code.
• Improve platform reliability with SLOs, observability, and resilience practices.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, security and architecture teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.
• Drive efficiency and sustainability through automation and FinOps-informed engineering.
