Job summary

Howett Thorpe in Alton is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage a varied portfolio of clients, preparing statutory and year-end accounts, and supporting tax work. You will work closely with Partners, gaining exposure to advisory work while maintaining a hands-on, proactive approach.

The role offers hybrid working with direct client contact and opportunities for development within a small, collaborative team.

Qualifications

• ACA or ACCA qualified, or nearing qualification.
• UK accountancy practice experience.
• Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Strong accounts knowledge.
• Good understanding of corporation tax; personal tax exposure helpful.
• Interest in developing management accounting skills.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
• Proficient in Excel and quick to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Managing a varied portfolio of clients.
• Preparing statutory and year-end accounts.
• Preparing corporation tax computations and supporting personal tax work.
• Producing management accounts and financial information for clients.
• Acting as the main point of contact for clients.
• Reviewing work and supporting junior team members.
• Helping clients with day-to-day accounting queries.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes and service.
• Collaborating with Partners on complex assignments.
• Building knowledge across accounts, tax and advisory services.
