You will oversee financial compliance, tax strategy, and growth planning for owner-managed businesses, SMEs and corporates, supported by a skilled team and a growth-focused culture.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent by experience) with UK practice background.
• Experience managing a diverse client portfolio including statutory accounts, management accounts, VAT and corporate tax.
• Proficient with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, IRIS).

Responsibilities

• Lead a varied client portfolio and act as primary advisor for financial compliance, tax strategy and growth planning.
• Oversee the delivery of statutory and management accounts, VAT, and tax services with high client satisfaction.
• Mentor and review work of junior staff; help plan workflow and capacity.
• Provide proactive business advice and cash flow forecasting to owners and management.

Are you an experienced practice accountant ready to step into a client-facing manager role, or an established Client Manager seeking a firm that offers genuine autonomy and a supportive culture? Our client is a prominent, well-established accountancy practice with a strong footprint across Greater Manchester and the North West. Operating from their modern Stockport office, they are seeking an ambitious Senior Accountant / Client Manager to lead a varied client portfolio and act as a key driver of department success.

The Opportunity

This role offers an ideal balance of technical oversight, portfolio ownership, and advisory engagement. Taking responsibility for a diverse client base of local owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and corporate entities, you will serve as the primary advisor for financial compliance, tax strategy, and growth planning. Supported by a skilled team of trainees and seniors, you will play a central role in staff development, review processes, and high-touch client delivery within a collaborative, growth-focused practice environment.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

• Qualifications & Experience: ACA/ACCA qualified (or qualified by experience) with 4–6+ years of UK accountancy practice background.


• Portfolio Management: Proven track record managing a diverse portfolio, ensuring high-quality delivery of statutory accounts, management accounts, corporation tax, and VAT returns.


• Advisory & Relationship Management: Confident acting as the main point of contact for business owners, delivering proactive tax planning, cash flow forecasting, and commercial business advice.


• Team Leadership: Experience reviewing work completed by junior colleagues, providing constructive feedback, and assisting with team workflow planning.


• Technical Software Skills: Proficiency in cloud accounting software platforms including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and IRIS.

• Base Salary: £40,000 – £52,000 (negotiable dependent on experience and portfolio background).
