An exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant / Client Manager.
We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Accountant / Client Manager to join our clients' growing practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who is confident managing a varied portfolio of clients, enjoys working directly with business owners, and is ready to take on greater responsibility within a progressive accountancy practice.
The successful candidate will be a technically strong accountant, a confident communicator and a natural leader who is comfortable managing both clients and staff. You will play an important role in the continued growth of the practice, with excellent career prospects and the opportunity for rapid progression.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and overseeing the delivery of a wide range of accounting and taxation services, including:
- Preparation and review of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, charities and not-for-profit organisations
- Preparation and oversight of management accounts
- Overseeing bookkeeping and ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently
- Preparation and review of statutory accounts and ensuring compliance with relevant disclosure requirements
- Managing and, where appropriate, running company audits
- Advising clients across a broad range of taxation matters, including:
- Corporation Tax
- Income Tax
- Capital Gains Tax
- VAT
- CIS
- PAYE
- Tax planning for individuals and businesses
- Dealing directly with HMRC, including handling enquiries and correspondence
- Using accounts production and tax software effectively
- Reviewing work completed by junior members of the team and providing guidance and support
Team Leadership & Development
As a senior member of the practice, you will also have responsibility for supporting and developing the wider team. This will include:
- Managing and motivating a team
- Timetabling work and assisting with budgeting and resource planning
- Reviewing junior-level work
- Mentoring, coaching and training team members
- Taking ownership of tasks and projects through to completion
- Working closely with the Office Manager and Practice Manager to ensure the smooth running of the practice
Client Management
A key part of the role will be building and maintaining strong relationships with clients. You will be responsible for:
- Managing your own portfolio of clients
- Acting as a key point of contact and trusted adviser
- Communicating directly with clients by telephone, email and in person
- Attending and leading face-to-face client meetings
- Understanding clients' businesses and identifying opportunities to add value
- Taking ownership of client issues and ensuring they are resolved professionally and efficiently
Business Development & Networking
We are looking for someone who is commercially minded and willing to play an active role in promoting the practice. This may include:
- Maintaining an active and professional presence on LinkedIN
- Building your professional network
- Attending networking events and representing the practice
- Identifying opportunities to develop existing client relationships and generate new business
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Extensive experience in practice and a strong background in accounts preparation
- Excellent technical knowledge across accounts and taxation
- Good audit experience, ideally including running and managing company audits
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounts and disclosure requirements
- Experience dealing directly with HMRC and managing enquiries
- Experience using accounts production and tax software
- Previous experience managing, mentoring or supervising staff
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities
- A professional, approachable and commercially aware manner
- A “can-do” attitude and a willingness to take responsibility
- The confidence and ability to act as a natural leader
- A genuine desire to build a long-term career within a growing practice
- A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, AAT or equivalent) would be preferred, although relevant experience and technical ability will also be considered.
