Job summary

Armstrong Talent Partners is partnering with a leading Scottish tech company to recruit a skilled 3rd line engineer. You’ll be the escalation point, resolving complex incidents and shaping how systems behave under pressure.

You’ll combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking across compute, virtualization, storage and networks, working in a 24/7 operational environment and collaborating with vendors on fixes and design improvements.

Qualifications

Solid experience in a 3rd Line or advanced support role, ideally within a data centre or MSP environment.
Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, networking, storage and ITIL processes.
Experience with VMware and Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
Networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, VLANs and routing basics.
Storage technologies such as SAN/NAS; familiarity with ITIL-aligned incident, problem and change management.
Ability to prioritise under pressure in a 24/7 operational setting.
Clear communication skills to explain complex issues without jargon.
Experience in hyperscale or colocation data centres and exposure to cloud/hybrid infrastructure (Azure, AWS, private cloud).

Responsibilities

Own and resolve incidents that cannot be solved at lower tiers.
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major outages, producing actionable improvements.
Optimise core infrastructure across Compute, Virtualisation, Storage and Networking.
Drive problem management, eliminating recurring faults at source.
Contribute to infrastructure projects, migrations, upgrades and capacity expansion.
Collaborate with vendors and third parties on escalations, fixes and design improvements.
