Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) for a special needs primary school in Lewisham, London, starting January 2027. The post entails leading SEND provision, coordinating with staff, families and external professionals to ensure tailored support for pupils.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience supporting children with SEND, ideally within a specialist primary school.
• Strong understanding of needs including autism, communication and interaction difficulties, learning disabilities and complex needs.
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with families, school staff and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Commitment to helping every pupil develop independence, confidence and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school.
• Support the identification and assessment of pupils' learning needs.
• Oversee development, implementation and review of individual support plans and provision.
• Work with teachers and teaching assistants to develop personalised learning strategies.
• Liaise with parents and carers to maintain strong home-school partnerships.
• Coordinate with external professionals (educational psychologists, speech and language therapists).
• Contribute to EHCP reviews and monitor provision.
• Provide guidance and professional development in SEND practice.
• Promote safeguarding, pupil wellbeing, inclusion and high expectations.
• Ensure SEND procedures reflect current statutory guidance and school policies.
