Start: Immediate start preferred

Indicative salary: £45,000-£55,000 per year (negotiable), full-time equivalent, depending on experience. Final salary, contract and working pattern to be confirmed.

Are you an experienced SENDCo looking for a new opportunity, or a qualified teacher with strong special educational needs experience ready to move into SEND leadership?

We are recruiting a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) for a mainstream academy serving primary and secondary pupils in North Hertfordshire.

The school has an experienced SEND team and a strong focus on identifying pupils' needs early, improving classroom support and working closely with families. Staff development is a priority, making this an opportunity to build your leadership experience while helping pupils access learning and become more independent.

SENDCo training can be provided

You may already be an Assistant SENDCo, an experienced SEND teacher or a classroom teacher who has taken responsibility for additional-needs provision.

What the role involves
  • Coordinate support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Work with teachers to identify barriers to learning and agree practical classroom adaptations.
  • Help develop and review individual support plans, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Coordinate reviews and maintain clear, accurate records of pupils' needs and progress.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Support teachers and teaching assistants with strategies they can use consistently.
  • Review interventions and use evidence of progress to improve provision.
What we're looking for
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and strong experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Practical knowledge of adapting teaching for different learning, communication and emotional needs.
  • An understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and how it applies in school.
  • Confidence communicating with families, colleagues and outside professionals.
  • Good organisation and the ability to follow through on agreed actions.
  • A recognised SENDCo qualification, or a willingness to complete the required training.You should be able to explain what effective support looks like in the classroom, help colleagues put it into practice and keep pupils' progress at the centre of decisions.
