As part of our growth strategy, Aurora is pleased to announce the opening of a new SEND Secondary School in Horsham, West Sussex, for young neurodivergent people aged -. Most students transition from mainstream education to access an adapted National Curriculum delivered in small classes, focusing on sensory needs and emotional wellbeing. Vincent House School aims to provide a safe, accepting environment where students can thrive, especially those who may have previously camouflaged or responded with freeze, flight, or faun responses.

The Role:

This is a full-time SENDCO position within a specialist school, working within a transdisciplinary model with integrated therapy and a universal support framework. You will liaise with the onsite therapy team led by a clinical psychologist, lead educational interventions, and conduct specialist assessments. Your responsibilities include training staff, supporting students' needs, and managing their EHCPs.

You will also be a key member of the senior leadership team, engaging with students and families, and providing staff training. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to establishing a bespoke SEND provision and curriculum with Aurora's support.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of the SEND code of practice
  • Knowledge of interventions and assessments, particularly in Literacy
  • Enthusiasm and a growth mindset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent students
  • A commitment to ongoing learning about neurodiversity
  • Experience supporting families with SEND children and young people

Preferred experience includes:

  • Working in a SEND setting
  • Supporting students with high anxiety or mental health difficulties
  • Supporting students aged -
  • Working with access requirements
  • Holding a SENCO qualification or willing to obtain the NPQ SENCO within 2 years
  • QTS or QTLS qualification
  • Prioritising safeguarding and holistic student needs
  • Excellent communication skills for family engagement
  • Commitment to being neuro-informed and neuro-affirmative
  • Staff training and line management skills
  • Good IT skills
