Description

The role involves providing comprehensive casework management and administrative support to ensure the effectiveness of SEN services, in accordance with the Children’s & Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015.

Responsibilities

To undertake the statutory assessment process for EHC needs assessments and the issuance of EHC Plans within twenty weeks, adhering to statutory deadlines as mandated by The Children and Families Act 2014, SEN Code of Practice January 2015, and relevant caselaw.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development.
  • Postgraduate professional qualification in a relevant area (desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media, and CRM systems.

Knowledge, Experience, and Additional Criteria (to be evaluated at shortlisting)

  • Experience in statutory assessment processes for EHC needs and issuing EHC Plans within deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEN Code of Practice (January 2015), and relevant caselaw.
  • Experience handling complex cases, including appeal hearings and legal proceedings.
  • Familiarity with case management systems.
  • Experience monitoring and reviewing cases to meet statutory timescales.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, professionals, and agencies, both written and oral.
  • Experience supporting the transfer of pupils with EHC Plans across educational stages and with Post 16 provisions.
  • Knowledge of liaising with authorities on placements for Children Looked After and those moving in/out of the Boroughs.
  • Experience managing Annual Review procedures for EHCPs.
  • Ability to commission suitable educational provision and placements.
  • Ensuring EHC Plans are person-centred, outcome-focused, and evidence-based.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for queries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of SEN legislation and policies.
  • Participation in working groups to review and improve procedures.

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • Five years of references.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • Pre-engagement screening; candidates should be prepared for this step.
