Job summary

SAIL Academy in Salisbury is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4–19 with autism and SEMH. You will deliver targeted literacy, numeracy and social skill interventions in classroom, small groups and 1:1 settings.

The role focuses on autism-friendly strategies, emotional wellbeing, and promoting independence, resilience and confidence within an inclusive environment. GCSEs in English and Maths are required.

Qualifications

• Has experience supporting children and young people with SEND, including Autism and SEMH.
• Understands social communication differences and strategies for autistic learners.
• Can build relationships based on trust, consistency and respect.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in the classroom, small groups and 1:1.
• Deliver targeted interventions to develop literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills.
• Use autism-friendly strategies such as TEACCH and visual supports.
• Help pupils regulate emotions and develop positive wellbeing.
• Promote independence, confidence and resilience.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to meet individual goals.
