Job summary

Smile Education is recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of needs at a welcoming primary school in Wombourne. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and support staff to deliver tailored one-to-one and group interventions, helping pupils to reach their full potential in an inclusive learning environment.

SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School

Location: Wombourne
Contract: Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference every day?

Smile Education is recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Wombourne. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO and the wider school team, you will provide tailored support to pupils both in the classroom and through targeted interventions.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions.
  • Support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Encourage pupils' independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help create a safe, nurturing learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to support individual learning plans.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential).
  • Essential: Experience working with children with SEND in either a specialist SEN setting or a mainstream primary school supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to the individual needs of pupils.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Have experience working with children with SEND in either a specialist SEN environment or a mainstream primary school.
  • Be able to provide two years of professional references, including comments on your work with children.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one through Smile Education.
