Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant for a large secondary academy in Sittingbourne, Kent. The role supports students with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and language difficulties, across KS3/KS4.

This is a full-time, long-term position starting September 2026. You will work closely with the SEN department to provide tailored support and help maintain an inclusive learning environment with safeguarding at the forefront.

Qualifications

  • Experience as SEND Teaching Assistant or in a similar youth/care support role.
  • Strong understanding of SEND and supportive strategies.
  • Excellent communication with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to stay calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with EHCPs across Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Assist class teachers by adapting materials to make lessons accessible.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain records, and feed back to the SENCO.
  • Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and positive behaviour management.

Are you a patient, dedicated, and proactive individual looking for a rewarding role as an SEND Teaching Assistant in a supportive secondary environment?

Do you have the passion and resilience required to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to help them overcome barriers to learning?

We are currently recruiting for a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join a large, highly regarded secondary academy in Sittingbourne. This is a full-time, long-term position starting in September 2026. The selected SEND Teaching Assistant will work closely with the school’s established SEN department, providing tailored support to students with a range of additional needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language difficulties.

The school is a well-established and community-focused 11-18 academy in Sittingbourne, known for its inclusive ethos and excellent support structures for both staff and students.

As an SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group intervention for students with EHCPs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Assist class teachers in adapting curriculum materials to ensure lessons are accessible for all learners.
  • Monitor student progress, keep clear records, and provide valuable feedback to the SENCO.
  • Uphold the school’s high expectations regarding safeguarding, inclusion, and positive behavior management.

To be considered for this SEND Teaching Assistant role, the candidate must:

  • Have previous experience working as an SEND Teaching Assistant or in a similar youth/care support capacity.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of various special educational needs and supportive strategies.
  • Possess strong communication skills, empathy, and a resilient, professional approach.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Meet GSL’s safer recruitment background checks.
  • Have a Child Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
