Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant for an Ofsted-rated Good school in Telford. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping students access the curriculum and develop confidence within an inclusive, nurturing classroom.

You will work with teachers and the support team, following EHCPs and individual learning plans while promoting positive behaviour and safeguarding. Relevant SEN experience is preferred.

An Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ school in Telford is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its supportive and inclusive team.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with a range of Special Educational Needs.
• Support students to access the curriculum and engage positively with learning.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider support team to meet individual student needs.
• Follow and contribute to the implementation of EHCPs, personalised learning plans and individual support strategies.
• Adapt activities and learning approaches to help students overcome barriers to learning.
• Provide encouragement and reassurance to help students develop confidence, independence and resilience.
• Support students with their academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Help create a calm, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
• Develop strong, positive and trusting relationships with students.
• Promote positive behaviour and help students remain engaged and focused.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to ensure students receive appropriate support.
• Respond positively and flexibly to changing needs and situations throughout the school day.

About You

We are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant who:

• Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or additional needs, or has a strong desire to develop their experience in this area.
• Is passionate about helping students overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
• Has a good understanding of, or willingness to learn about, EHCPs and personalised learning approaches.
• Is patient, empathetic and understanding when working with diverse learning needs.
• Can build positive relationships with students through a calm, consistent and supportive approach.
• Is confident supporting learning both independently and as part of a wider classroom team.
• Is proactive, flexible and able to adapt their approach to individual students.
• Has strong communication skills and can work effectively with teachers and other school professionals.
• Is committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, graduate or aspiring teacher looking to gain valuable classroom experience before progressing into teacher training.
