Job summary

Teach Now Limited is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support a non-speaking child in Reception at a Barnet primary school. This 1:1 role involves working with the class teacher and SENCo to remove barriers to learning, using AAC and visual supports, and promoting inclusion from the start of school.

Immediate start with a long-term temporary contract. The ideal candidate will have EYFS/Reception SEND experience, be calm and patient, and able to collaborate with the EYFS team to foster

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND in EYFS or Reception.
• Understanding of non-speaking or minimally speaking pupils.
• Experience using visuals, AAC, Makaton, PECS or similar strategies.
• Knowledge of sensory and emotional-regulation needs.
• Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills.
• A calm, patient and child-centred approach.
• Ability to support inclusion while promoting independence.
• Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

SEND Teaching Assistant – Reception

Location: Barnet, London; Salary: £101.80–£105 per day; Contract: Part-time, long-term temporary; Days: Monday and Friday; Start date: Immediate – September 2026.

Are you a caring and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant who understands that communication is about far more than speech? A friendly and inclusive primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated practitioner to provide 1:1 support for a non-speaking child in Reception. This is a rewarding opportunity to help a young child feel safe, understood and included from the beginning of their school journey.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, Early Years team and SENCo to remove barriers to learning, play and communication.
