Job summary

Teach Now is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for Reception in Barnet to provide 1:1 support for a non-speaking child. You will collaborate with the Early Years team to remove barriers to learning, using visuals, AAC, and sign systems where appropriate.

Ideal candidates will have SEND experience in EYFS/Reception, a calm, patient, child-centred approach, and eligibility to work in the UK. This part-time, long-term temporary role runs on Mondays and Fridays with an immediate start.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND in EYFS or Reception.
• Understanding of non-speaking or minimally speaking pupils.
• Experience using visuals, AAC, Makaton, PECS or similar strategies.
• Knowledge of sensory and emotional-regulation needs.

Responsibilities

• Providing consistent, child-centred 1:1 support.

• Using visual timetables, Now/Next boards, symbols, gestures and choice boards.

SEND Teaching Assistant – Reception

Location: Barnet, London

Salary: £101.80-£105 per day

Contract: Part-time, long-term temporary

Days: Monday and Friday

Start date: Immediate - September 2026

Are you a caring and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant who understands that communication is about far more than speech? A friendly and inclusive primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated practitioner to provide 1:1 support for a non-speaking child in Reception.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, Early Years team and SENCo to remove barriers to learning, play and communication.

• Providing consistent, child-centred 1:1 support

About You

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will be warm, observant and confident taking initiative. You will ideally have:

• Experience supporting children with SEND in EYFS or Reception
• An understanding of non-speaking or minimally speaking pupils
• Experience using visuals, AAC, Makaton, PECS or similar strategies
• Knowledge of sensory and emotional-regulation needs
• Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills
• A calm, patient and child-centred approach
• The ability to support inclusion while promoting independence
• The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
