Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a passionate SEND teacher to join a partner school in Kirkby, starting ASAP until the Christmas break. You will work with upper-class SEND pupils, focusing on Autism and ADHD, building positive relationships and delivering nurturing, structured lessons.

Ideal candidates have SEND experience and the ability to adapt to individual needs while maintaining a calm, inclusive environment. A safeguarding-focused approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working within a SEND setting, ideally with pupils with Autism and ADHD.
• Strong understanding of behaviour as a form of communication.
• Confident supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviours.
• Able to build meaningful relationships with pupils on an individual basis.
• Patient, empathetic, resilient and consistent in their approach.
• Understands the importance of identifying triggers and using proactive strategies to prevent escalation.
• Create an engaging, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and supporting pupils within the upper classes of the SEND base.
• Supporting children with Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviours.
• Building strong, trusting and individual relationships with pupils.
• Understanding each pupil's individual needs, triggers and communication styles.
• Using proactive, nurturing and consistent approaches to prevent dysregulation and support emotional regulation.
• Creating a safe, structured and positive learning environment where every pupil feels understood and supported.
• Adapting learning and expectations to meet the individual needs and abilities of pupils.
