Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a specialist SEND school in the Braintree area and is seeking a dedicated SEND Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team on a full-time basis. The role involves helping pupils access learning and progress academically, socially and emotionally, with responsibilities including 1:1 support, group work and behaviour guidance.

The ideal candidate will have experience in SEND, care, support work, healthcare, youth work or education, and be proactive,

• Patient, caring and resilient.
• Highly proactive and willing to get involved.
• Confident building positive relationships with pupils.
• Calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• Able to follow instructions while also using their own initiative.
• Reliable, punctual and committed.
• Background in care work, support work, healthcare, residential care, youth work, nursery work or SEN support encouraged.
• Willing to get stuck in from day one and engage with pupils.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

• Support children and young people with SEND and disabilities.

Location: Braintree, Essex
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–3:00pm
Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience

TeacherActive is working with a specialist SEND school in the Braintree area that supports pupils with a range of complex learning needs. The school is looking to appoint a dedicated SEND Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a full-time basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in SEND, care, support work, healthcare, youth work or education, as well as individuals looking to transfer their skills into a school environment.

The Role

As a SEND Support Worker / Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help pupils access learning and make progress academically, socially and emotionally.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups


• Helping pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities


• Supporting children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities


• Encouraging communication, independence and confidence


• Supporting pupils with their emotional regulation and behaviour


• Assisting with personal care where required


• Helping pupils during transitions, break times and lunchtimes


• Following individual support plans and guidance from teaching staff


• Creating a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment

• You do not necessarily need previous school experience. Candidates from backgrounds such as care work, support work, healthcare, residential care, youth work, nursery work or SEN support are strongly encouraged to apply.
