Job summary

Axcis Education is recruiting for a mathematics tutor/teacher to support students with SEND in a specialist provision near Newton Abbot. The role involves delivering GCSE and A-level level maths to post-16 learners, including 1:1 and small group sessions. The position is permanent (temp to perm) with October 2026 start.

Experience in teaching maths to this cohort is required, and a DBS check will be needed. QTS is not mandatory but desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics to GCSE/A-level or equivalent.
• Able to build relationships with students with SEND needs.
• Passion for delivering lessons 1:1 or in small groups.

Responsibilities

• Teach mathematics to post-16 learners in a specialist provision.
• Deliver 1:1 and small group tutoring sessions.
• Collaborate with staff to support students' individual needs.

About the Role:

• Based in Newton Abbot
• Salary between £24,500-£34,500, depending on qualifications and experience.
• Hours are 8.30-4.30
• The position is permanent (Temp to perm)
• Starting in October 2026 (or as soon as possible)

About You:

• Experiencing of teaching or tutoring mathematics lessons, including A-level and GCSE (or equivalent) are required for this position.
• Confidence in forming relationships with students who have SEND needs and may be reluctant to engage.
• A passion for helping delivering lessons on a1:1 or small group basis.
• Someone who is a team player and is friendly and approachable.
• You do not have have to have QTS for this position. However, qualifications are desirable.

About the School:

• An independent specialist provision who welcome students with ASD, ADHD and complex needs with an EHCP.
• Students are mainly post 16 and are working towards GCSE and A-level qualifications
• Students require support with regulating and accessing a curriculum tailored to their needs and pace of learning.
• There is an emphasis on staff culture, work life balance and team support.
• Students respond well to the bespoke support and learning behaviours, in general, are very positive.
