Job summary

Axcis Education Recruitment are seeking teaching assistants to work in a SEND school specialising in autism and complex needs in North Birmingham. The setting supports pupils aged 4 to 19 and requires resilience, consistency and the ability to manage challenging behaviour on a daily basis.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, align with the class teacher's planning, and provide feedback after sessions. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 3:30pm, with an ASAP start.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing one-to-one support to pupils.
  • Proven experience with pupils with complex ASD.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum of 2 years of references.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to assigned pupil.
  • Support small groups (2-3) as directed.
  • Work with class team following planning and provide feedback.
  • Demonstrate resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.

Job description

Axcis are on a search for teaching assistants to work in a SEND school specialising in children with Autism and complex needs, the school caters to children aged 4 to 19 years, tailoring their provision to each individual’s needs. The school requires multiple teaching assistants to work with children with exceptional special needs and whom can display very challenging behaviour. The perfect teaching assistants will need to have a very high level of resilience and dedication, consistency is key for all children with SEND needs however this is 10x as important for these specific individuals with exceptional SEND needs.

This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for the rest of the academic year. Being able to work independently and as part of a team is key, to be able to take direction from the teacher and implement planning accurately and effectively. Whilst you will be working on a 1:1 basis with the individual with the specific individual you will also rotate with the class team in working with other 1:1 children and small groups of children (2-3), this is purposely done by school as they appreciate it would be too tough for any one person to work solely with the specific 1:1.

This Autism specific school is based within North Birmingham and whilst car parking is available, the school also has great public transport links. You will be working with the class teacher, following their planning and giving feedback on sessions. Whilst this will be a challenging role the reward from seeing this individual engage and participate will be phenomenal it really is an amazing opportunity to make a massive impact on this particular individual’s life and learning.
