Axcis Education is seeking a caring SEND Lunch Cover Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH, ASD and complex needs during lunchtime at a specialist school in Wallington (SM6). The role covers 11:30am–1:30pm with potential extra hours and a September 2026 start date.

You will assist pupils, including non-verbal students, in managing emotions, encouraging social interaction, and maintaining a calm, safe lunchtime environment. Prior SEND experience is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH or ASD.
  • Comfortable supporting non-verbal pupils.
  • Calm, patient and reliable with safeguarding focus.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils during lunchtime and unstructured periods.
  • Provide support to pupils with SEMH and ASD.
  • Assist non-verbal pupils with communication and interaction.
  • Help pupils regulate and manage their emotions.

  • Assist with personal care where required.
  • Monitor pupils and respond to individual needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider support team.
  • Provide a calm, patient, and consistent lunchtime presence.

Are you passionate about supporting pupils with SEND and looking for flexible work within a specialist school? A welcoming and supportive specialist school in Wallington is looking for a caring and reliable SEND Teaching Assistant to provide lunch cover for pupils with SEMH, ASD and complex additional needs, including pupils who are non-verbal.

The Role
  • Support pupils during lunchtime and unstructured periods
  • Provide support to pupils with SEMH and ASD
  • Support non-verbal pupils with communication and interaction
  • Help pupils regulate and manage their emotions
  • Encourage positive social interaction and independence
  • Support pupils to have a safe and positive lunchtime experience
  • Help with personal care where required
  • Monitor pupils and respond appropriately to their individual needs
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider support team
  • Provide a calm, patient and consistent presence throughout lunchtime
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Caring, patient and reliable
  • Experienced working with pupils with SEND, SEMH or ASD
  • Comfortable supporting non-verbal pupils
  • Calm and confident when supporting emotional regulation
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Proactive and able to work independently
  • A strong team player with good communication skills
  • Reliable and committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, support worker, carer or parent of a child with SEND is welcomed.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.
