Job summary

Newham College London seeks a dedicated role to identify, assess, and support learners with additional learning needs across college sites. You will manage a caseload, act as a central contact for curriculum staff, families, and external professionals, and ensure clear information-sharing and advocacy for each learner.

Responsibilities

• Be the main point of contact for a caseload of learners with SEND and additional needs.
• Assess learners' support needs at the start of their programme and throughout, working with learners, curriculum staff, and relevant professionals.
• Create and maintain support plans for learners on the caseload, ensuring plans and EHCPs (where applicable) are uploaded and accessible on e-Trackr.
• Provide out of class, targeted 1:1 and group support as required.
• Support learners' academic progress, social and personal development, and wider life skills.
• Develop learning resources and promote independent learning strategies, including group sessions in study skills and core skills where appropriate.
• Advise and support curriculum staff to implement reasonable adjustments in line with support plans and EHCP outcomes.
• Work with support services across the college to ensure learners' needs are understood and met consistently.
• Support curriculum staff and college-wide support teams to manage challenging behaviour, including behaviour linked to a learner's diagnosis. Provide advocacy at disciplinary and behaviour meetings and offer practical strategies to reduce barriers to learning and minimise the risk of placement breakdown.
• In line with the SEND Code of Practice, arrange, chair, and contribute to learner reviews and EHCP Annual Reviews, and update monitoring paperwork, support plans, and positive behaviour plans as required.
• Attend staff meetings, case reviews, and other key meetings to support learner progress.
• Liaise with the Head of ALS to agree and review appropriate levels of support across college sites.
• Deliver training and guidance to curriculum teams on specific learning needs and effective in-class strategies.
• Support exam access arrangements, including completing required forms and ensuring documentation is accurate and stored in line with JCQ regulations.
• Contribute to marketing and promoting ALS and the college, including links with schools, employers, agencies, and universities, and attending events as needed.
• Provide data on support hours and interventions to support funding claims and resource planning.
• Help coordinate and support Learning Support Assistants when required.
• Take part in entry activities such as learner interviews and induction.
