Job summary

Bright Futures Educational Trust is seeking an empathetic learning support assistant to help a Year 8 student with an EHCP, working as part of a small team to meet their needs.

You will accompany the student to lessons, support learning in and out of class, promote independence and social inclusion, and help ensure safety and wellbeing throughout the school day. This role includes liaison with SENDCO and teachers and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Understand the specific needs of the student(s) to be supported.
  • Establish rapport and promote self-esteem, independence and social inclusion.
  • Provide support based on personal and physical care needs.
  • Assist learning in group and individual settings inside and outside the classroom.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour in line with the school's policy.
  • Support inclusion and manage the student(s) as advised by SENDCO and class teacher.
  • Reinforce the student(s)' self-esteem and ensure safety at school.
  • Follow the Student Access to Learning Plan and any specific duties outlined.

Responsibilities

  • To develop an understanding of the specific needs of the student(s) to be supported.
  • To establish a rapport and a supportive relationship with the student(s), promoting high self-esteem, independence and social inclusion.
  • Provide support based on a detailed knowledge of the students' personal and physical care needs.
  • To aid the student(s) to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the classroom.
  • To promote high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • To establish acceptance and inclusion of the student(s) in the classroom.
  • To manage the student(s) as advised by the SENDCO and class teacher.
  • To promote/reinforce the students' self-esteem.
  • To ensure the safety of the student(s) whilst at school.
  • To carry out any specific duties as outlined in the students' access to learning plan.
  • To assist the student(s) in their transfer from transport on arrival and departure from the school site.
  • To accompany the student(s) to all their lessons, ensuring their safe movement between classes at quiet times.
  • To provide social and emotional support including mindfulness and sensory tools.
  • To attend to physical and personal needs including supervising equipment and movement.
  • To provide individual supervision during PE, dance, practical lessons and visits.
  • Liaise with other professionals involved in the care management of the student(s).
  • To provide feedback about the students' difficulties and progress to SENDCO and class teacher.
  • To participate in minor administrative tasks to support learning.
  • To attend associate staff meetings and participate in training and reviews.
  • To report problems to the SENDCO or senior tutor.
