Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Wimborne is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant to support young people with SEND on a permanent basis from September 2026. You'll join a dedicated team, working closely with teachers, therapists and other staff to provide personalised support and help learners progress.

The role focuses on Autism, complex learning difficulties and wide additional needs, delivering one-to-one and small group support, promoting independence, communication and emotional

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND (essential).
  • The ability to work confidently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
  • A genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people.
  • Strong teamwork skills alongside the confidence to use your own initiative.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promotion of pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting learners with Autism, complex learning difficulties and associated additional needs.
  • Assisting with classroom learning, practical activities and life skills development.
  • Delivering personalised one-to-one and small group support.
  • Encouraging confidence, communication and emotional regulation.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistency, encouragement and structure.
  • Supporting learners to achieve their individual education and personal development goals.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and wider support teams.
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment where every learner can succeed.
