Job summary

TeacherActive is proud to partner with a well-established specialist SEND school in the UK, supporting children aged 3–19 with SLD, PMLD, ASD and complex needs. The SEND Learning Support Assistant will join a dedicated team to provide high-quality support across classrooms, sensory rooms and therapy-led activities.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, personal care and collaboration with teachers, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists to help pupils achieve EHCP

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND (SLD/PMLD/autism) or complex needs.
• Willingness to provide personal care for pupils with physical and learning disabilities.
• Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or those with communication needs.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or AAC devices is advantageous.
• Understanding of sensory needs and strategies for complex learning difficulties.
• Willingness to move and handle as part of role and training.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and other needs.
• Support pupils aged 3–19 with academic, physical, social and emotional development.
• Assist teachers with differentiated and sensory-based activities.
• Support non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods as appropriate.
• Provide personal care and support daily routines while maintaining dignity.
• Assist pupils with mobility and use of specialist equipment as trained.
