Job summary

TeacherActive Ltd in Benfleet, Essex, is seeking a Learning Support Assistant for an on-site, temporary role supporting pupils with SEND. The role focuses on 1:1 and small-group support to boost academic, social and emotional development and to help students engage with lessons.

Working with teachers to deliver individual learning plans, you will promote positive behaviour, build independence and confidence, and support pupils with a range of SEND needs. Previous SEND experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience in a school, specialist provision, care or youth-work environment.
• Patient, compassionate and resilient.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Calm and positive when supporting pupils with additional or complex needs.
• Reliable, adaptable and a good team player.
• Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
• Qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Health & Social Care or SEND are beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Support pupils with academic, social and emotional development.
• Help pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities.
• Assist the class teacher with delivery of learning plans.
• Use positive behaviour-management strategies.
• Encourage independence, confidence and communication.
• Support pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff and other professionals.
• Maintain a safe, positive and supportive learning environment.
