Job description

SEND HLTA - Functional Skills
Type: Temp-to-Perm (Permanent via trial contract)
Dates: ASAP
Location: Gloucester
Pay: £100 - £140 per day during trial contract

Our client is an expanding Alternative Education Provision serving primary and secondary pupils with EHCPs related to SEMH across multiple sites in Gloucestershire. They offer a 'revolving-door' approach, with students staying up to 18 weeks on either full-time or part-time 'transition' basis before returning to mainstream or attending a special school. Despite challenges, they maintain a 'no-restraint' policy and use restorative practices.

We seek an experienced SEND HLTA, preferably with prior experience working with learners with SEMH and trauma, and possibly other needs such as ASC, ADHD. The ideal candidate will act as a positive role model, delivering functional literacy and numeracy sessions, providing PPA cover, and interventions.

The candidate should be able to recognize and respond to the emotional and educational needs of learners, creating tailored learning activities. Many learners have not engaged in education for some time, requiring an individual approach. Empathy and patience are essential qualities.

The right person will be child-centered, enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed to providing a fresh start each day. The role begins with a 60-day probation period, with potential for permanent employment based on performance. Benefits include an Employee Assistance Programme offering counselling, a GP helpline, and health and wellbeing support. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, with flexibility for the right candidate.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience working with children overcoming barriers
  • Ability to engage parents and support behaviour management
  • Willingness to undertake training and implement new ideas
  • Passion for working with young people in education
  • Understanding of effective intervention strategies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and helping students overcome difficulties
  • Dedication to maximizing students' academic and personal achievement
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, challenging environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

This is a great opportunity for those seeking training, progression, and a supportive organization with expansion plans.

Applicants should:

  • Be based within the UK
  • Have UK right to work (no sponsorship required)
  • Possess UK school experience, including supporting SEND
