Job summary

City of York Council is seeking a SEND Casework Officer to support children and young people with special educational needs and their families through the EHC needs assessment and planning process. You will manage a caseload, coordinate information from families and professionals, and ensure timely statutory progress.

The role requires strong organisation, clear communication with diverse stakeholders and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEND, education, social care, or health casework would be valuable.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of children and young people through statutory SEND processes.
• Coordinate EHC needs assessments and EHCPs and related casework.
• Collaborate with families, schools, settings, and professionals across education, health and social care.
• Gather, review and coordinate professional advice to support decision-making.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure progress within statutory timescales.
• Communicate clearly with families, especially in complex circumstances.
• Contribute to annual reviews and transition planning to focus on needs and outcomes.
