Job summary

TeacherActive is partnering with a welcoming Primary School in Birmingham to recruit a senior SENCO for a full-time, school-based role. You will lead SEND provision, work with SLT, staff, and families, and drive inclusive practices across EYFS to KS2.

The successful candidate will manage EHCPs, annual reviews and the SEND provision, ensuring statutory compliance and pupil progress while building strong partnerships with outside professionals.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
• A recognised SENCO qualification such as NASENCO or NPQ for SENCOs.
• Previous experience as SENCO.
• Primary school experience across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
• Experience managing EHCPs, annual reviews and SEND provision.
• Experience working with Senior Leadership Teams.
• Leadership or SLT qualification would be advantageous.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Strong commitment to inclusive education and pupil success.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the school's approach to SEND and inclusion.
• Oversee identification, assessment and provision for pupils with SEND.
• Coordinate EHCPs, annual reviews and statutory processes.
• Monitor pupil progress and evaluate SEND interventions.
• Support teachers with adaptive teaching and differentiation.
• Lead and support teaching assistants and staff working with SEND.
• Provide SEND guidance, coaching and professional development to staff.
• Liaise with parents, carers, local authorities and external agencies.
• Work with educational psychologists, therapists and other professionals.
• Maintain accurate SEND records and ensure statutory requirements are met.
• Contribute to SLT meetings and whole-school improvement planning.
• Promote a positive culture where pupils with SEND are fully included.
