Job summary

Supply Desk is seeking an experienced SENCo to lead the school’s SEND provision in Watford and work with teachers, parents, and external professionals to secure essential support for pupils with SEND.

The successful candidate will have NASENCo qualification or be willing to obtain one, plus strong safeguarding knowledge and delivery of focused interventions. A DBS check will be required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a SENCo or in a SEND leadership role in a school or education setting.
  • Relevant SEND, teaching, or education-based qualification.
  • NASENCo qualification, or willingness to obtain one where appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation, safeguarding, and inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Positive, caring, proactive, solution-focused attitude.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the school's SEND provision, ensuring effective support and provision for pupils with additional needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to identify, assess, and monitor pupils with SEND.
  • Develop, implement, and review appropriate support plans and interventions.
  • Coordinate the assessment and provision for pupils with SEND in line with school policies and statutory requirements.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and support to teachers and other school staff around SEND strategies and best practice.
  • Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND interventions and support.
  • Liaise with external professionals, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other relevant services.
  • Promote an inclusive learning environment where all pupils are supported to achieve their potential.
  • Keep up to date with current SEND legislation, guidance, and best practice.
  • Ensure safeguarding and health & safety policies are followed at all times.

The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve their academic, social, and personal potential.

You will play a key role in leading and developing the school's SEND provision, working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, external professionals, and senior leaders to ensure pupils with additional needs receive the appropriate support and opportunities to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
