Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire to support pupils aged 7-19 with complex cognitive, sensory and communication needs in a specialist setting. The role involves working closely with teaching staff and therapists to help pupils develop communication, independence, physical skills and readiness to learn.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people with complex SEN.
• Experience supporting communication, sensory or cognitive needs.
• Patient and consistent approach.
• Ability to follow personalised strategies and guidance.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Genuine understanding of supporting pupils towards greater independence.
• Experience in a specialist school, SEN provision, care environment or similar setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group support to pupils with complex additional needs.
• Assist pupils with communication, learning and engagement.
• Support the development of independence and life skills.
• Follow individual education, care and communication strategies.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other members of the wider team.
• Help pupils access lessons and activities by reducing barriers to learning.
• Support pupils' physical, sensory and emotional wellbeing.
• Encourage appropriate communication, choice-making and social interaction.
• Maintain a safe, calm and supportive learning environment.
