Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to join primary schools in Bishop Auckland from September 2026. You will support pupils with SEND, help them access the curriculum, and build positive relationships within the school.

The role suits those with experience in SEND, a nurturing approach, and strong communication. An Enhanced DBS (Update Service) is advantageous. Training and support are provided in a collaborative school environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND is desirable.
  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or SEN qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs is advantageous.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support pupils to access the Primary curriculum.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and learning needs.
  • Implement strategies from EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on pupil progress.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

SEN Teaching Assistant - Bishop Auckland

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Bishop Auckland and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you're an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or have experience supporting children with additional needs and are looking to develop your career within education, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll play a key role in supporting pupils with SEND, helping them access learning, develop independence, and build positive relationships within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Passion for supporting children to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
