Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Skelmersdale is seeking dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and Complex Needs in specialist settings.   • Support sensory, emotional and behavioural needs in a calm, positive manner.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and social development.
  • Assist with personal care where required.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to provide the best outcomes.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Complex Needs within specialist educational settings across Skelmersdale. Full-time and part-time positions are available, making this an excellent opportunity for both experienced professionals and those looking to transition into SEN education.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and emotionally, helping them to access learning and reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism and Complex Needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Helping students engage in classroom activities and follow individual learning plans.
  • Using communication strategies such as visual aids, PECS, Makaton or other alternative communication methods.
  • Supporting sensory, emotional and behavioural needs in a calm and positive manner.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to provide the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults with additional needs.
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • An understanding of Autism and Complex Needs.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.
