Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and Complex Needs in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Roles available full-time and part-time, with a September 2026 start.

The positions offer a competitive daily rate and opportunities across specialist educational settings. You will work 1:1 or in small groups, use PECS or Makaton, and collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to promote learning and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults with additional needs.
  • Patience, caring and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with Autism and Complex Needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Helping students engage in classroom activities and follow individual learning plans.
  • Using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton or other alternative methods.
  • Supporting sensory, emotional and behavioural needs in a calm, positive manner.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to achieve best outcomes.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
