Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and Complex Needs in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Roles available full-time and part-time, with a September 2026 start.

The positions offer a competitive daily rate and opportunities across specialist educational settings. You will work 1:1 or in small groups, use PECS or Makaton, and collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to promote learning and wellbeing.

Qualifications

Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable adults with additional needs.
Patience, caring and resilient approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.

Responsibilities

Supporting pupils with Autism and Complex Needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
Helping students engage in classroom activities and follow individual learning plans.
Using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton or other alternative methods.
Supporting sensory, emotional and behavioural needs in a calm, positive manner.
Encouraging independence, confidence and social development.
Assisting with personal care where required.
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapy teams to achieve best outcomes.
Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
