Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 7-16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and SEMH at an independent special school in Haslingden, Lancashire. The role is full-time and term-time only, offering 1:1 and small group support, plus collaboration with teachers and therapists.

The successful candidate will use sensory and communication strategies, help pupils meet EHCP targets, and contribute to a nurturing, inclusive learning

Qualifications

• Experience with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH (essential).
• Willingness to support personal care needs where required.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist independent school in Haslingden, supporting pupils aged 7-16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school provides a nurturing, structured, and inclusive environment where pupils are supported to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. Staff work collaboratively to deliver personalised support, promote positive outcomes, and create a safe and engaging learning experience for every student.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs
• Support learning activities through tailored and differentiated approaches

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH (essential)
• Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable)
• Willingness to support personal care needs where required
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
