Job summary

GAC Education in Hull is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, in line with EHCPs. You will implement sensory routines, visual timetables, and adaptive learning materials in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.

The role focuses on emotional regulation, positive behaviour strategies, and de-escalation techniques, while promoting an inclusive environment and pupil independence. Safeguarding duties are essential.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supporting children or young adults with SEND in an educational, care, or youth work setting.
  • A solid understanding of child protection procedures and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance.
  • An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete a new check during onboarding).
  • Alternative communication skills (PECS, Makaton) or de-escalation training (Team-Teach, MAPA, Safety-Intervention) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils achieve individual outcomes outlined in EHCPs.
  • Implementing sensory routines, visual timetables, and adaptive learning materials in coordination with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, utilizing positive behaviour support strategies and proactive de-escalation techniques.
  • Fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment that promotes pupil independence, confidence, and well-being.
  • Maintaining strict adherence to safeguarding guidelines and child protection procedures.
