Job summary

Teaching Personnel in York is recruiting a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with special educational needs in a school setting. The role is available on both full-time and part-time terms during school hours.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, adapting activities to the pupil’s needs, monitoring progress, and helping with behaviour management. DBS checks and safeguarding training are emphasised.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification of Level 2 Certificate in Early Years Education or Childcare (advantage).
• Previous experience with young children and SEN support is desirable.
• Experience providing 1:1 support is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a named child, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
• Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the child's individual needs.
• Support the child's academic, social and emotional development.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored support strategies and learning plans.
• Assist with behaviour management strategies where required.
• Undertake break time and lunch time duties as directed, supporting the child during unstructured times.
• Maintain strong communication with colleagues and parents/carers to ensure consistent and effective support.
