Job summary

Balfor Recruitment is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Castle Bromwich. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, with on-going commitment required.

You will support pupils who are non-verbal and may display challenging behaviours, working closely with the class teacher and SEN team to assist with learning, communication, behaviour, personal care and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Teaching and Learning qualification is essential.
• Minimum of 6 months' UK experience working within a school or education setting is essential.
• Experience with SEN pupils is essential.
• Experience supporting non-verbal pupils is essential.
• Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviours is essential.
• Experience providing personal care is essential.
• A patient, caring and nurturing approach.
• Ability to remain calm and consistent when managing challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEN needs.
• Support non-verbal pupils with communication and engagement.
• Support pupils with challenging behaviours using positive strategies.
• Follow individual behaviour, communication and support plans.
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
• Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Support pupils' emotional regulation and wellbeing.
• Provide personal care including hygiene and toileting when required.
• Encourage independence and life skills development.
• Collaborate with class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.
• Monitor pupils' progress, behaviour and engagement and give feedback to staff.
• Maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
