Job summary

Uniform Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a caring primary school in Brent, London. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils access learning, develop communication and social skills, and build confidence.

You will collaborate with the SENCO and teachers to implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables, fostering independence and positive relationships.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN is essential.
  • Experience in a primary school setting with additional needs is preferred.
  • Experience using PECS is essential.
  • Experience with Makaton is highly desirable.
  • Experience using Now and Next Boards and other visual communication strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum through differentiated activities.
  • Use PECS and Makaton to support pupils' communication and understanding.
  • Implement Now and Next Boards, visual timetables and other communication strategies.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
  • Support pupils in working towards their individual targets and EHCP outcomes.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Support pupils during lessons, breaktimes, lunchtimes and school activities where required.
